Below are descriptions of development needs for Zero Waste Madison that go beyond our bi-weekly meetings. If you’re interested, please email [email protected]. Anything helps - if you don’t think you can commit to a full role but would still like to volunteer your time, please let us know!
Social Media
- Responsibilities:
- Create and maintain a Zero Waste Madison instagram account.
- Promote meetings/events and recap what the group did at previous events.
- Monitor comments, messages, etc.
- Share insights from mapping, research, other projects.
- Periodically post in the Facebook group to engage members asynchronously and continually promote the in-person aspect of Zero Waste Madison
- Expected time commitment: 1-2 hours per week.
Zero Waste Madison Map Webpage Debugging
- Zero Waste Madison is creating a map of circular programs in Madison for community members to use, hosted on the Green Life Trading Co. webpage (through Shopify). We need someone to debug the page before it goes live.
- Expected time commitment: 2+ hours per week until the project is completed; possible ongoing maintenance beyond that
Meeting Coordination
- Responsibilities:
- Host virtual (Zoom) Zero Waste Madison meetings for community members who are unable to make it in person.
- Assist with finding and booking meeting locations.
- Create and maintain snack sign up.
- Expected time commitment: 1 hour every 2 weeks
Event/Project Planning
- Currently, Zero Waste Madison has a backlog of project and event ideas that have not yet been prioritized. If you’d like to take a project and run with it, or if you know of something else that needs work, please let us know!
Ongoing Project Needs
If you want to work on one of these projects, simply show up to our organizing meetings every other week!
Mapping
- This is our quantitative research project - we’re gathering information on all the zero-waste businesses and programs in Madison (compost, second-hand stores, bulk shopping, repair, etc.) and compiling them into a database and map for the community.
- Current needs:
- Maintenance: We need people to ensure the map is up-to-date with business information, and we need people to test the site to uncover any bugs.
- Marketing: We aim to launch the map to the public in early 2025. We need help with strategic promotion throughout Dane County so it gets used!
